Exploring Tideswell

The moment you enter Tideswell you'll realise you've come to a special place. It is one the Peak District's larger villages but still retains that friendly feel and a good range of shops. It is a village with many facets and is well worth exploring.

Tideswell's ChurchThe Parish Church of St. John lies in the centre of the village and is one of the most impressive parishes churches you're likely to find anywhere. Built in the wealth from lead mining in the area. It's a place where generations of villagers and visitors have worshipped and contemplated life. It's open every day for you to visit and soak up some of that history.

Tideswell's annual wakes and well dressing week takes place in the last week of June. Tideswell's main well, almost next door to Jaret House, is the best you'll see anywhere in the Peak and always depicts a church or cathedral. The other wells are made by the youngsters in the village, an excellent training ground for the future. Don't forget the carnival on the second Saturday too. The village lets its hair down and has fun!

Tideswell is home to an amazing variety of buildings. A stroll through the streets and alleyways of the village will reveal some fascinating corners. Spend time during your stay to explore and then sample the four pubs and excellent Vanilla Kitchen cafe. Once refreshed then why not visit some of the local shops, still owned and run by local people. Tideswell boasts a grocer, florist, post office/general store, a chemist and a butcher, two hairdressers and a co-op. Of particular note is the Cathedral Gallery, a perfect place for souvenirs, the award winning Tindalls bakers and deli, which sells lots of very tempting goodies and The Rock Shop (stones not sweets).
